Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city is famous for its traditional cultural and religious diversity, with adherent of Islam, Orthodoxy, Judaism and Catholicism coexisting there for centuries. The walk through Sarajevo is actually a walk through its history. In 1914, the Archduke of Austria Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia were killed in Sarajevo, which caused the First World War. Every year Sarajevo hosts different festivals of international importance, among them the most known is Sarajevo Film Festival. Baščaršija is Sarajevo’s old bazaar and the historical and cultural center of the city. It was built during the Ottoman Empire and it is known for its arhitecture, such as mosques, bezistans and hans.
