Project Description

Počitelj

This small oriental town is on the UNESCO list of world heritage. Pocitelj is located on the high cliffs above the Neretva, dominated by a medieval defensive fortifications beneath which nestles placid settlement. Probably existed before, but Pocitelj was first mentioned in written records in 1444, it is assumed that it was built by the Bosnian king Tvrtko in 1383. This medieval town had a Mediterranean look, but after the Turkish conquest it was oriental redesigned. A mixture of these two architectural styles gives Pocitelj special dimension. Besides its stunning oriental architecture and Ottoman ”touch”, Pocitelj is interesting and known as the host of the art colony with the longest tradition in southeastern Europe.
