Sarajevo

Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city is famous for its traditional cultural and religious diversity, with adherent of Islam, Orthodoxy, Judaism and Catholicism coexisting there for century. It is the only European major city to have a mosque, Catholic Church, Orthodox Church and synagogue within the same neighborhood. In 1914, it was the site of the assassination of the Archduke of Austria that sparked World War I. Every year Sarajevo hosts different festivals of international importance, among them the most known is Sarajevo Film Festival. Baščaršija is Sarajevo’s old bazaar and the historical and cultural center of the city. It was built during the Ottoman empire and it is known for its arhitecture, such as mosques, bezistans and hans.
